Debbie’s experience and patience helped us

After researching Wedding Celebrants and speaking with Debbie directly she quickly put us at ease and made us feel that we were in good hands. She made us both feel very comfortable and relaxed and was very easy to chat to about what our thoughts and ideas were for our big day. Debbie guided us through from start to finish with numerous video calls to help us plan it all.

We didn’t really know what we wanted so Debbie’s experience and patience helped us. She helped us plan everything and nothing was too much trouble. She even helped and suggested things that we hadn’t even thought of like plastic champagne flutes for the beach and umbrellas if it rained, who was doing the music, chairs and meeting times etc. She even liaised with the photographer beforehand to make sure it all ran smoothly. She also went to look at the beach in her own time to see where might be some good places to conduct the ceremony. All of our vows and reading etc were printed out for us for the ceremony as well as giving us special copies for us to keep.

All in all we couldn’t speak highly enough of Debbie and the service she provided for our special day.

From the very first contact, Debbie from Brightstar Ceremonies was brilliant! Planning our wedding ceremony was a breeze with Debbie’s guidance. She took the time to understand our vision, personalities, and what truly mattered to us.

Including your dog in your wedding ceremony

Most dogs are members of the family and so it’s not surprising that many couples would like to include them in their wedding ceremony. These are my top tips and suggestions in how you can involve them in your special day:

Your dog could have the starring role of being a ring bearer
You could include a wedding reading or poem to celebrate your furry friend
Your four legged friend could add their seal of approval to your wedding certificate

Top tips

You know your dog – will they cope with the noise, crowds, cheering and clapping – would your dog be happier to take part in another part of the day for less time?

Can someone have the role of dog chaperone on the day or look at choosing a dog nanny
Ensure the venue allows dogs to be there on the day – if not there are lots of other ways to ensure they are included:
A reading or poem is a great way to include your dog whether they are there or not a fabulous reading is How Falling In Love Is Like Owning A Dog by Taylor Mali
You could create dog based wedding favours, paw print sweeties, photo’s of your dog as labels
Use your favourite dog photo’s as table numbers or place name cards
Your guests could wear your dogs face as a mask within the ceremony – I have incorporated this – it was hilarious!
You could have a donation to an animal charity opportunity
You could plan part of the professional pictures to include your freshly bathed furry friends before the ceremony or as a ‘first look’ shot

If you are having your well behaved pup as a ring bearer (attach a pouch with the rings to his collar) you could have him trot down the aisle with you or he could make a dramatic entrance – assuming excellent recall!

Make sure you have planned for his special person to be in the front row with plenty of treats on hand!

Adding the ‘seal of approval’. Seeing as you have wisely chosen a wedding celebrant to create your service we can plan the certificate signing with your dogs paw print included (obviously this would not be allowed on a legal document). Ensure you have plenty of wet-wipes handy for this option.

Whatever you would like to include remember:

Have plenty of poo bags available
Let your pooch explore the venue first if at all possible
Ensure named people will look after your special guest
Bring plenty of treats/ special toys
Really consider your dog and their needs, no-one needs to feel stressed on their special day. I have had several couples who only had their dogs attend a couple of hours of their day and it worked really well.

Tim and I just want to say thank you for doing a great job on Friday, as celebrant for our Dad’s funeral service. We both felt that the service was a real celebration of Dad’s life and captured all that he has done – and all of our speakers did us (and him) proud! You made a difficult situation smooth and easy – and you have our thanks.

Debbie was absolutely amazing as our celebrant. Not only did she create our perfect ceremony but she made the lead up to our wedding special too and put us at ease. She took the time to get to know us as a couple and was a great communicator throughout. Debbie was fun and professional and really did go above and beyond for us.

D would have been very proud of all of us

Yesterday was the last thing I could do for D, I wanted it to be just right. Well, it was more than that, it was perfect. Thank you for the big part you played in this. Everyone who came said you did an amazing job. Your suggestion of a slideshow during the playing of “How Deep Is Your Love” was a great hit.

D would have been very proud of all of us.

Jumping the Broom – another one of my favourites

Did you know that historically the broom has different meanings from different cultures?

In Christian ceremonies the broom handle represents God, the straw bristles are the families of the couple and the ribbon around the broom symbolizes the ties that bind the couple.

In Pagen ceremonies, it is said that the handle represents the male phallus and the bristles represent the female energy.

In West Africa brooms were waved over the couple’s head to ward off evil. A broom was then placed on the ground and the couple would jump over it.

We use this ritual to celebrate the transition from two separate lives into one that is united by love.

The broom can be decorated and laid in front of the happy couple, they then take a ‘leap of faith’ jumping forward into the future together.

Tie the knot

I love it when my couples want to literally ‘tie the knot’ in front of their family and friends. A hand-tying ritual can be done in a number of ways. The colours chosen represent values, beliefs and what you wish for in the future. It is a truly magical and dramatic ritual.

The ribbons can be loose and special guests can be part of the ritual, laying the ribbons across the couple’s hands. Or I can plait the ribbons into a chord that is wrapped around your hands. My favourite part is when the hands pull away and the ribbons create a knot in front of everyone’s eyes, too much cheering and wonder!

It doesn’t have to be ‘pagan’ or ‘hippy’ or ‘traditional’. It is a romantic, fun and memorable part of your wedding that leaves you with something you will treasure forever.

Special ceremony on the sand

I love a sand ceremony. This gorgeous ritual can be used at a family blending ceremony, baby naming, wedding or vow renewal ceremony. It is a special visual way to include others in your ceremony.

Pouring the coloured sand to create layers from individual jars represents individual lives, feelings and values. The sand is layered in turns and creates a beautiful artistic memento of the day.

As the sand is poured it mixes together as lives are separate and join together.

“As these grains of sand are joined together, so are our hearts, our bodies and our souls.”
